Zoona is an interoperable distribution business that enables the drive of young entrepreneurs and the power of cutting-edge technology to bring a large variety of safe and reliable financial services to underserved communities in Zambia.

Mobile Money transactions started by providing payment solutions from companies to smallholder farmers, following it’s initial success and a name change to Zoona, meaning: ‘It’s real’, the company transitioned in 2009 to create a domestic money transfer service using a network of small business agents. Starting off with one outlet in Lusaka’s CBD, Zoona’s network grew rapidly, and by 2016 Zoona had over 200 outlets in each of Zambia’s 10 provinces. With such rapid growth and success in Zambia, Zoona expanded to Malawi and Mozambique where there was an obvious demand to bring further financial inclusion. Over recent years Zoona has once again transitioned in order to keep up with the fast-paced consumer market and ever-changing financial landscape in Southern Africa. This has led to the successful sale of both Zoona’s Malawi and Mozambique networks leaving us fully focussed on Zambia, with the clear mission of becoming the most interoperable network in the country. This has seen Zoona diversify away from just domestic money transfers, to partnering with other financial service providers, Mobile Network Operators and Banks in order to become totally interoperable, with the aim of making a Zoona Outlet a one stop shop for all consumer needs. In line with this Zoona is also focusing on quality of service and Agent float levels, ensuring that no customer gets turned away, or leaves disappointed. Zoona is now driving into the new decade with over 15 new partner products and more coming soon, available at over 700 trusted and valued outlets nationwide.
